For the last few months, players have been working their way up the $5K Poker Summit in hopes that they would be the one to conquer and take home the $2,500 first prize. The Summit launched a new format of tournament on the ZEN Poker Network, where players climb their way to the final match by finishing in the winner’s circle in a series of STEP tournaments. This $5K Summit tournament featured a total of 11 steps to the championship table and over 20,000 people competed for a chance at the grand prize.
The final championship was held on February 8th and 32 finalists squared off to take home their share of the $5,000.00 pot.
We caught up with the big winner, whose total Zen winnings equals $3,065 to date, to get the details on his journey to the top and how it feels to be $2,500 richer.
Us: Did you grind your way through the steps or grind it out in point tournaments to get to the Championship?
fjc222: I played through to Step 11 which got me into the championship.
Us: Are you a VIP or Basic member?
fjc222: I’m a basic member. I did win a couple of months of VIP which was great!
Us: How often do you play on our site?
fjc222: I play every day.
Us: Tell us about your journey to the top of the summit.
fjc222: During the 5K, I got short stacked early and remained there for most of the tourney. Then things turned for me.
Us: What was the hand that sealed the deal when you won?
fjc222: Triple 5s on the final hand.
Us: How did it feel to win the $2,500 first prize?
fjc222: It felt great to win!
Us: What advice do you have for all the players out there trying to make a big score like you did on our free play poker site?
fjc222: It’s simple. Play good position. You have to be very patient and everyone knows bad beats happen, so don’t tilt. All you can do is make good decisions and get your chips in, hopefully with the best hands and they hold up.
Excellent advice from a shrewd competitor. Congrats, fjc222 for keeping a cool head even when it felt like the odds were against you.
Fjc222 plays with us every day. Keep your eyes peeled for him online and congratulate him if you end up at the same table and be sure to watch for our new STEPS tournaments coming your way soon. Our players have told us they love this new steps format and the chance to compete for cash and prizes in smaller, faster-paced championship games. We’ll be bringing you more steps tournaments in the coming days.
